The AKAS (Association of Kalvi Aravanaippu Sangamam) Foundation was born from a family of teachers’ unwavering dedication and the lifelong gratitude of their students.
In 1979, Mr. Kamalanathan — a passionate maths teacher from Atchuvely, Sri Lanka — together with his family of teachers, started a small tuition centre at their home with just seven students, at the request of the students’ parents. Their mission was simple: to provide quality education and support to children beyond the classroom. Over time, their dedication attracted more students, and by 1992, over 400 children were benefiting from their guidance.
Their impact, however, lived on. Their former students, now spread across the world as successful professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders, never forgot the teachers who shaped their lives.
In 2016, the AKAS Foundation was formed at the request of their former students, to help ensure that children in Atchuvely would never have to give up their education due to financial hardship.
Today, these former students remain the backbone of the foundation, providing the financial support needed to help AKAS continue its mission. Thanks to their generosity and commitment, the foundation has been able to support hundreds of students, ensuring that education remains a reality — not just a dream — for the children of Atchuvely.
We are proud to support six schools across Atchuvely, helping hundreds of children access the education they deserve. Each school represents a community of young minds filled with hope, ambition, and potential — and with your support, we are helping them grow stronger every day.
At AKAS Foundation, we are dedicated to ensuring that no child in Atchuvely is denied education due to financial hardship. With the unwavering support of former students and well-wishers, we provide vital assistance to school and university students, empowering them to build a brighter future. Education changes lives, and we are committed to making that change possible.
