Saraswathy Vidyasalai is one of Achchuvelly’s larger schools, educating children from Year 1 to 11. With 99 students and 22 dedicated teachers, the school has the potential to shape futures from the earliest stages of learning right through to the doorstep of A/L studies. But despite its size, Saraswathy Vidyasalai faces deep-rooted challenges — many even more severe than those in the village’s smaller schools.
Most of the children come from very low-income families, where parents often work as farm labourers, struggling to earn enough to meet even the most basic daily needs. For these families, education is not just a goal — it’s their only hope for a better life for their children. Yet the cost of school supplies, uniforms, and transport is often overwhelming. Too many children come to school without the essentials — and some are at risk of dropping out entirely.
Through the AKAS Foundation, we are committed to helping these children stay in school, learn with dignity, and dream with courage. From school starter packs to long-term support for older students, our work at Saraswathy Vidyasalai is helping to keep the light of education burning bright.
